New Delhi: The upgraded Terminal 2 at Indira Gandhi International Airport will become operational from Oct 26 with around 120 daily domestic flights by Air India and IndiGo, Delhi International Airport Limited said on Monday.Terminal 2, built by Airports Authority of India 40 years ago, was temporarily closed in April for the work. As the resumption of operations will coincide with the beginning of the winter schedule, DIAL, the GMR Aero-led airport operator, said the move would optimise operations and provide a better travel experience to hundreds of thousands of passengers every day.The upgraded terminal will offer passenger-friendly facilities, including the self baggage drop facility and six new passenger boarding bridges. Its airside and apron areas have also undergone major refurbishments. "The independent baggage check-in facility will reduce wait time for flyers. It will mean no more long queues; simply scan your boarding pass, tag your luggage and drop your bags in minutes," DIAL stated.The passenger boarding bridges, featuring autonomous docking technology, will allow quicker and smarter aircraft handling. "Procured from South Korea, these bridges have been designed to enhance passenger convenience, safety and overall experience. They have elevated ramps to assist wheelchair passengers and optimally adjusted cabins for seamless boarding," stated DIAL. The bridges also feature side-covering cushions for improved safety and aesthetics, along with swing doors ensuring operator safety and a modern and attractive design, it added.Complemented by modern ceilings and innovative skylight designs, the terminal promises a bright, open and inviting atmosphere. Passengers will also benefit from advanced flooring solutions designed for comfort and durability, along with significantly improved road connectivity to and from T2.
