New Delhi: The Confederation of Indian Industry has called for establishing a National Global Capability Centres (GCC) Council through exclusive legislation to develop next-generation Digital Economic Zones, helping unleash the true potential of GCCs that have lately been at the vanguard of creating technology jobs at the country's top outsourcing hubs. The proposed council would help deepen the industry-academia partnership, the apex industry body said, as part of its 'Suggested Framework for a National GCC Policy'. "The suggested framework provides a structured national vision to support the continued expansion and elevation of India's GCC ecosystem," said Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII. Highlighting the role of the GCC council, the framework states that the council should have representation from ministries such as Finance, Commerce, Electronics & IT, and Niti Aayog for "setting the strategic direction for India's GCC agenda, reviewing the baseline and the economic impact created by the GCCs and approving major reforms and cross-sectoral initiatives." The development of next-gen DEZs will facilitate the creation of world-class plug-and-play infrastructure for GCCs.
