Initially, he sought treatment at two private hospitals in city and was later shifted to the intensive care unit of one of them as the symptoms worsened. The disease was officially diagnosed a few days ago, following which he was moved to the medical college. In the wake of the confirmed case, the health department closed the swimming pool at Akkulam Tourist Village to prevent further risk. Officials also collected water samples from the pool for laboratory testing.Medical experts have cautioned that amoebic encephalitis, though rare, is potentially fatal and can spread through contaminated water entering the nasal passages.
