Mumbai: Maharashtra recorded 12 new COVID-19 cases and one death in the past 24 hours, the state's Public Health Department said on Saturday. A 76-year-old woman from Kolhapur district, who had underlying health conditions, succumbed to the infection after reporting fever and shortness of breath. This takes the state's COVID-19 death toll for 2025 to 41. According to the health department, the fresh cases reported on July 5 include four from Pune, two from Mumbai, and one each from Thane, Navi Mumbai, Gadchiroli and Kolhapur, along with two from Nagpur. Mumbai's COVID-19 tally now stands at 1,007 cases so far this year, with 551 reported in June and 15 recorded in the first five days of July. Since January 2025, Maharashtra has reported a total of 2,569 COVID-19 cases, out of which 2,466 patients have recovered. The state has conducted 32,842 COVID-19 tests since the beginning of the year. At a recent state-level COVID-19 review meeting, officials were instructed to ensure regular surveillance of influenza-like illness and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome cases. Five per cent of ILI patients and all SARI patients must be tested for COVID-19, and all positive samples will be sent for Whole Genome Sequencing. All public health institutions, government medical colleges and hospitals under municipal corporations have been asked to keep COVID-19 testing and treatment facilities updated. The health department has urged people to stay alert and follow preventive measures to limit the spread of the virus.
Mumbai, Jun 27 (PTI) No COVID-19 case was reported in Mumbai on Friday, the feat achieved for the first time in about two months, the metropolis' civic body said. In a release, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation also said no new or concerning variant of the virus has been detected in the city as per the Whole Genome Sequencing Report.
