UP likely to receive 64 pc less rain in Sep

Lucknow, Sep 13 (UNI) Many parts of Uttar Pradesh received heavy rainfall in early September, however, contrary to the forecast of above normal rainfall in the state, this spell came to an almost complete halt between September 5 to 11, leading to dry skies and a massive 64 per cent rainfall deficit in the state. The state is likely to receive above normal rainfall this month. A closer look at the rainfall in UP during this period shows that the entire state recorded only 16.2 mm of rainfall, which is much less than the normal of 45.5 mm. In eastern UP, the deficiency was even more severe, where the region received only 14.9 mm of rainfall against the average of 49.2 mm. Similarly, a 55 per cent deficit was recorded in western UP, which received only 18.1 mm of rainfall against the normal of 40.2 mm for the period. However, eastern UP received 602 mm of rain as against the normal 711.5 mm which is 15 per cent less. According to the weather department's monsoon season bulletin, western UP recorded 18 percent more rain during the same period, receiving 727.7 mm of rain as against the normal 611.4 mm.
