Bhubaneswar: The 25-year-old youth, who self-immolated at Mentu Chhack under Bada Bazar police station in Berhampur two days ago, died at AIIMS Bhubaneswar this evening. The youth identified as Suraj Sahu reportedly succumbed to his burns while undergoing treatment at the AIIMS hospital. He set himself on fire on Wednesday evening Before pouring petrol on him and setting himself on fire, the youth had shared a message on Instagram in which he wrote that nobody is responsible for his suicide attempt. While the exact cause of Sahu taking the drastic step is yet to be known, it is suspected to be a fall out of family dispute. He purportedly had a fight with his family members over some reason for which he allegedly made the self-immolation attempt by setting himself on fire by pouring petrol on him. However, the locals extinguished the fire and rescued him. However, by then he had already sustained 80 percent burn injury. The locals informed the fire department and ambulance. On receiving the information, the fire brigade and ambulance reached the spot. He was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and hospital for treatment. The police also started investigation of the matter. However, today, the condition of the youth turned critical and thus he has been shifted from MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur to AIIMS, Bhubaneswar in critical condition. But unfortunately, he breathed his last this evening.
