Batala: Batala police claimed to have unearthed a Pakistan-ISI-backed terror module operating in Punjab, allegedly in connivance with the UK-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).Talking to mediapersons here on Monday, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Suhail Qasim Mir said police recovered a cache of high-grade explosives concealed near a roadside bush on the Amritsar-bound route. The recovery included four SPL HGR-84 hand grenades -- commonly known as Arges HG-84 -- and a nearly 2 kg RDX-based improvised explosive device (IED) packed in a black metallic box. Additional recoveries included a Baofeng dual-band FM transceiver set, a D-shaped headset compatible with walkie-talkies, and other communication accessories. These devices, according to police, are commonly used by terror operatives to maintain covert communication. Suhail said that preliminary investigations revealed that the explosive consignment was placed on the instructions of UK-based BKI operative Nishan Singh alias Nishan Jodia, acting under the directions of Pak-based terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda -- both of whom are believed to be functioning with active backing from Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). One person identified as Ravinder Pal Singh alias Ravi, a resident of Puriya Kala village, was arrested. Police teams have also identified a second accomplice and launched a manhunt. The SSP said that the explosives were recovered through a "dead letterbox" mechanism -- a covert method where items are deposited at a secret location for pick-up. "This operation has effectively disrupted a nefarious cross-border conspiracy aimed at destabilising peace and communal harmony in Punjab," he said. He also confirmed that investigative agencies are coordinating with central authorities to track and apprehend Nishan Jodia. Formal requests for his extradition have been initiated via the ministry of external affairs and the Indian consulate in Birmingham, he added.
