Mumbai: After the Supreme Court decides to remove stray dogs from the streets of Delhi, people doubt if the reciprocation would be seen in other places, including Mumbai. In a recent report, the civic authorities have mandated relevant departments to address stray dog complaints at least thrice weekly. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) reported 10,778 complaints about stray dogs in relation to road safety and risk of rabbies. To enhance response times, authorities have directed regular reviews of complaints, aiding efficient tracking and quicker intervention. According to a report by News18, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 10,778 reports concerning stray dogs in last eight months that is from January to August 2025. This reflects rising concerns among residents regarding issues like road safety and the risk of rabies. To facilitate reporting, the BMC has implemented an online complaint system through the MyBMC app and its website, allowing residents to log in, detail locations, and describe issues. Complainants receive a reference number and updates on the actions taken post-complaint. Recent Rules By BMC To Protect Street Dogs and Feeders Harassing citizens who feed stray cats and dogs is a punishable offense, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). It mandates payment of taxes for pet dogs and compliance with pet license regulations. BMC's guidelines, issued in line with the Hon'ble Supreme Court and the Animal Welfare Board of India, provide rules for pet owners, individuals feeding animals, and organisations.
