Srinagar, Aug 3: The encounter between security forces and terrorists in the Akhal Devsar area of South Kashmir's Kulgam district has entered its third day, with security forces continuing a high-stakes operation against at least two more terrorists still holed up in the area. The operation, which began on Friday evening, has so far resulted in the elimination of one terrorist, officials said. Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi, said on Sunday evening that the situation remains unchanged from the previous day. "Only one terrorist has been killed so far. At least two more are trapped. The terrain is very challenging, and we are proceeding with utmost caution," he said. Army officials said that the dense terrain and complex topography of Akhal Devsar have significantly hampered the pace of the operation. " The area is under tight cordon and we are conducting combing searches to flush out the remaining terrorists," senior Army officials said here. "Intermittent gunfire has continued throughout the past two days, and there are concerns that the terrorists may be heavily armed and strategically positioned in the rugged landscape." The encounter is being led jointly by the 7 Para, RR , Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF. To aid that joint parties Army has deployed the HAL Rudra attack helicopter in support of ground operations. The helicopter, based on the Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv platform, is equipped with a 20mm turret gun, advanced electro-optical sensors, and integrated target acquisition systems. It is specifically designed for high-altitude warfare and counter-insurgency missions. The Rudra is currently providing close air support and aerial reconnaissance, significantly boosting the firepower and surveillance capabilities of the operation. Its deployment marks a strategic escalation, highlighting the seriousness of the engagement and the complexities involved in neutralizing the remaining terrorists. "The use of Rudra allows us real-time intelligence gathering and precision fire support, especially in terrains where visibility and accessibility are limited.
