Torrential rains continue to wreak havoc in many dists | Jaipur News - Times of India

Jaipur: Continuous heavy rainfall across Rajasthan has triggered flooding, claimed multiple lives, and caused severe disruptions in several districts. In Dholpur, rising water levels in the Parvati River forced authorities to open six gates of the Parvati Dam Friday, releasing 9,844 cusecs of water. Several areas in the district were cut off due to waterlogging and a rise in the Chambal River. The situation worsened in other parts of the state, including Sriganganagar, Hanumangarh, Sawai Madhopur, Tonk, Churu, Bikaner, and Sikar. In Hanumangarh's Udasar village, a four-year-old girl died when the roof of a mud house collapsed. In Sikar's Gokulpura police station area, a young man drowned in a pond. In Mount Abu, a tourist from Gujarat lost his life after falling into a 300-foot gorge while taking a selfie.Dholpur also witnessed a tragic incident Friday morning when a mini-truck, along with its driver and cleaner, was swept away in the Parvati River while crossing the Ranoli culvert in Maniyan police station limits. In Churu district's Lalasar village, the house of three brothers collapsed due to incessant rainfall.According to the Jaipur Meteorological Centre, Taranagar/Reni in Churu recorded the highest rainfall at 185 mm within 24 hours. In Sriganganagar, heavy rainfall washed away a stretch of Kharbara Road between Suratgarh and Chhattargarh, disrupting traffic. In Nagaur, National Highway 458 (Nagaur-Rajsamand) was closed for the third time in 12 days after water from the Luni River overflowed the Jasnagar bridge, cutting off Nagaur's connection with Pali and Beawar districts.Hanumangarh also faced major power disruptions after water entered a powerhouse in Makkasar village, snapping supply to connected areas since 7 am.The Met department issued a yellow alert for moderate to heavy rainfall in Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Karauli, and Dholpur districts on Aug 2. From Aug 3, heavy rainfall is likely to intensify in parts of Bharatpur and Jaipur divisions.
