Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has introduced a new WhatsApp service to make it easier for citizens to report issues related to construction and demolition (C&D) waste and garbage lifting. If construction debris is dumped near homes or garbage bins are overflowing in your area, residents can now send a WhatsApp message to 81259 66586. They can also attach photos and share their location directly through the app. There is no need to visit any GHMC office in person. This service promises a quick resolution of complaints, a simple and hassle-free process and Fast communication with GHMC. However, this WhatsApp number is only for complaints related to C&D waste and garbage dumping. For all other civic issues, GHMC requests citizens to use the "MY GHMC" mobile app. With this initiative, GHMC hopes to improve cleanliness and make it easier for people to raise complaints from the comfort of their homes. 8 more Indian consular centres in US The Indian Embassy in the USA has announced an expansion of consular application centers in the United States. Ambassador of India to the United States Vinay Kwatra said that 8 new consular application centers will be operational across the United States, bringing the total number of centers to 17. "We are happy to announce 8 new consular application centers in Boston, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Edison, Orlando, Raleigh and San Jose. We will provide extensive consular services to our Indian diaspora", Ambassador Vinay Kwatra said. GHMC checks drainage, ALO ops The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out a series of field inspections on Friday in Secunderabad and Khairatabad zones in an attempt to improve civic infrastructure and ensure effective implementation of urban management efforts. The inspection began at Baghlingampally and adjacent areas in the Secunderabad Zone. Officials reviewed sanitation levels, Anti-Larval Operations (ALO), road maintenance and the functionality of local drainage systems. GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan was present during the inspections. NSS officers trained on environment The Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) held a two-day Master Trainers Workshop at Ni-msme, Yousufguda, to train National Service Scheme (NSS) programme officers in environmental education and community engagement. The workshop covered topics such as climate change, solid waste and plastic waste management and youth-driven environmental campaigns. Interactive sessions were conducted by TGPCB experts and environmental educators. Officers were also briefed on environmental laws, awareness strategies and the importance of student participation in grassroots initiatives. The trained officers will now serve as master trainers and train NSS peers and student volunteers in their institutions as part of TGPCB's broader aim to promote environmental awareness and action. Congress, BRS spar over ration cards Tensions flared between Congress and BRS leaders during a ration card distribution event in Jubilee Hills on Friday, as minister Ponnam Prabhakar and BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan engaged in a heated exchange over the BRS government's track record. During the distribution programme, MLC Dasoju Sravan refuted claims that the previous BRS government did not give a single new ration card to applicants, and a verbal argument ensued. MLA Danam Nagender, along with other leaders from both parties, had heated altercations on stage before the issue was diffused. Speaking to reporters, minister Prabhakar said, "In the last ten years, families couldn't get new ration cards even if there was a marriage or a birth. But our government is giving new ration cards to all eligible families." "In Hyderabad's 15 constituencies alone, we handed over 55,000 ration cards whose verification is complete and another 1,00,000 application verifications are being processed. The BRS government gave 6,00,000 ration cards, but cancelled more than 5,50,000 ration cards", he added.
