Ahmedabad: Work on the bullet train project took a major step forward with the completion of eight large circular piers for a bridge being built over the Sabarmati river in the city. The bridge is part of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train corridor and will be 36m (about 12 storeys) tall and 480m long.The bridge is being constructed next to the existing Ahmedabad-Delhi railway line. In comparison, the bullet train bridge will be significantly taller -- around 118 feet above the river level.Officials from the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said the bridge crosses over several structures, including flyovers, railway lines, and metro corridors. To meet safety regulations and maintain the required height clearance, the piers were designed taller than usual."To maintain the mandatory vertical clearance of 5.5m from the topmost construction point, as per Indian Roads Congress guidelines, the piers of the Sabarmati river bridge were designed with increased height," said the officials.Of the eight piers, four are built inside the river, two on the riverbanks, and two outside the riverbanks.The bridge has been designed with longer spans -- five spans of 76m and two spans of 50m -- to reduce the number of pillars in the river and minimize disruption to water flow.So far, 16 of the 21 river bridges planned for the bullet train in Gujarat have already been completed. In total, there are 25 river bridges along the route -- 21 in Gujarat and 4 in Maharashtra.

New Delhi, Jun 6 (PTI) The Delhi government has rolled out guidelines for tree officers to enforce certain sections of the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act (DPTA), 1994, officials said. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said Section 8 of the DPTA mandates that no tree shall be felled, removed or disposed of without prior permission from the tree officer.
