Patna: Three people were detained from Kolkata's New Town area in connection with the murder of a notorious criminal, Chandan Mishra, at a private hospital in Patna on July 17, officials said on Saturday. They were picked up during a joint operation by the Bihar and West Bengal police in the early hours of Saturday at a housing complex in the metropolitan satellite township, following the interrogation of a notorious criminal, Onkar Singh alias Sheru, who is lodged at the Purulia central jail in West Bengal.Sources said the suspects were found hiding in a New Town housing complex flat and taken into custody during the raid. "Their involvement in the murder is under investigation," the officials said.The officials added, "The Bihar police located them through their cellphone tower signals and shared the information with their West Bengal counterparts." The police suspect that after the incident, the accused escaped from Patna to Kolkata. Patna SSP, Kartikeya K Sharma, confirmed the detention of three people. "They have been taken into custody for interrogation from Kolkata, but no arrests have been made so far. A police team from Patna is conducting raids at different localities in Patna to nab the accused involved in the murder. Besides, raids are also going on in Patna, Buxar, and some other cities in Bihar in search of the shooters," he said.The SSP said during the investigation, the criminals involved in the murder have been identified. "Other accused who helped the criminals have also been identified. A notice has been issued against the three main shooters involved in committing the murder," Sharma added.The Patna police also detained four people from Samanpura and Phulwarisharif localities during a raid on Saturday, said the City SP (Central) Diksha. The team is also examining the CCTV footage of the nearby areas and gathering technical evidence to arrest the accused involved in the murder.During the investigation, the police also came across a phone call recording between Sheru and Mishra, which likely happened on July 13. After a short conversation, both of them started fighting over the phone. The matter escalated, and then they started threatening each other. TOI does not confirm the authenticity of the viral audio.On the audio, the SSP said, "There is no confirmation whether the audio is authentic or not. So many fake news stories are making rounds on social media, it is difficult to say anything right now. But the police are investigating it," he said.
