KURNOOL: Continuous rainfall in upper catchment areas has led to a steady increase in inflows into the Srisailam reservoir. As of 8 a.m. on Saturday, the dam was receiving 1.58 lakh cusecs of water, while 90,200 cusecs were being released downstream. Officials said that if the inflows continue, dam gates may soon be lifted to manage water levels. Several parts of Kurnool and Nandyal districts reported intermittent rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning. On Saturday afternoon, Adoni town experienced heavy rain for over two hours. An average rainfall of 15.6 cm was recorded across 11 mandals in the district over the past 24 hours, with Pathikonda reporting the highest -- around 6 cm -- on Friday. The reservoir currently holds around 197 TMC feet of water, against its full capacity of 215 TMC feet. It is receiving 1.10 lakh cusecs from the Jurala project and another 34,000 cusecs from the Tungabhadra River. At present, officials are releasing 32,340 cusecs for power generation on the right bank in Andhra Pradesh, 35,315 cusecs on the left bank for Telangana, and 20,000 cusecs through the Pothireddypadu head regulator.
