Odisha higher education dept directs colleges, universities to display women helpline number 181

Bhubaneswar, July 19 (UNI) The Higher Education Department of the Odisha Government has instructed all registrars and heads of universities, government colleges, aided colleges, and private colleges under its purview to prominently display the Women Helpline Number 181 on their campuses. In an official letter, the department also directed institutions to strictly adhere to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act, 2013) and the corresponding guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Universities and colleges have further been asked to conduct awareness workshops on the POSH Act, 2013. These sessions must be attended by students, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as members of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC). The participants will also take an oath to uphold and comply with the provisions of the Act, the letter stated. The department has asked institutions to submit detailed reports of the workshop within the next three days.
