Bhubaneswar, July 17 (UNI) The Odisha Government has decided to raise five new National Cadet Corps (NCC) girls battalions as part of the state's NCC expansion plan. The Higher Education Department has sent a letter to the Director of NCC in Odisha, emphasising the need to enhance the reach and impact of the NCC within the state, with a special focus on increasing the participation of girl students. As per discussions with the Director General of NCC, the total strength of cadets in the state will be increased from the existing 63,000 to 90,000. In line with this, the state government has proposed the formation of five new NCC girls battalions as part of a comprehensive expansion strategy. This proposal aligns with the Government of India's vision of empowering youth through discipline, leadership, and nation-building opportunities. The proposed expansion also aims to address the growing demand from educational institutions and stakeholders for broader NCC coverage, particularly among female students. The state government has assured the DG NCC of all necessary support for raising and maintaining the five new girls battalions. The DG NCC has been requested to submit a detailed proposal at the earliest, including district-wise or region-wise deployment, infrastructure and administrative requirements, manpower and training logistics, and an estimated timeline for implementation.
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday said the Karnataka government and the Centre should resolve the issue in connection with the release of financial assistance from the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) to the state for drought management.
