Patna: Five individuals were arrested near Kolkata's New Town in connection with the murder of a hardened criminal, Chandan Mishra, at a private hospital in Patna, the officials said on Saturday. The arrest was made during a joint operation by Bihar and West Bengal Police in the early hours of Saturday at a housing complex in the metropolitan satellite township.Mishra, who hailed from Bihar's Buxar district and was a murder convict on parole, was fatally shot by assailants at a private hospital in Patna on July 17.A police officer stated, "The suspects were found hiding in a New Town housing complex flat. Four individuals were directly involved in the killing, whilst the fifth person's role -- whether direct involvement or providing shelter -- is under investigation. After the incident, they escaped from Patna to Kolkata."The officer added, "We located them through their mobile phone tower signals. The Bihar Police will seek transit remand after presenting them before a local court in Kolkata."The CCTV recording of the brazen killing, which went viral on social media, showed five unmasked armed assailants entering the hospital's room number 209 on the second floor and shooting multiple shots at Mishra.Police reported that Mishra, lodged in Beur Central Jail in Patna, received treatment at the hospital while on 15-day parole, which started on July 3.
