New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has said it will not join the meeting of INDIA bloc on Saturday, a move which has formalized its exit from the Opposition alliance ahead of crucial monsoon session of Parliament. AAP Rajya Sabha member of Parliament Sanjay Singh said on Friday the party will not attend the online meeting called on Saturday of the INDIA bloc. "We will not be attending the meeting. We are not a part of INDIA bloc. This was an alliance for parliamentary elections," said Singh, adding that AAP will keep playing the role of a constructive Opposition party in Parliament. ET was the first to report on AAP's exit in its June 2 edition. AAP senior leader and national media coordinator Anurag Dhanda had told ET, "AAP is not part of any alliance. We have our own strengths. We are building on that." When asked about the status of Opposition's INDIA bloc, Dhanda had said, "That (alliance with INDIA bloc parties) was for Lok Sabha elections. We are not a part of any bloc now." So far, INDIA bloc parties have been working closely on floor strategy in Parliament. However, following the humiliating defeat in Delhi Assembly elections, AAP has recalibrated its strategy and has decided to fight all elections on its own. It had recently fought and won by-elections to Punjab's Ludhiana (West) and Gujarat's Visavadar Assembly segments.
