MEERUT: A 28-year-old woman took her life by consuming poison after writing a suicide note on her hands and legs in UP's Baghpat. She was allegedly harassed and humiliated by her husband and in-laws over dowry, her family said.The note reads: "My husband and my in-laws are the reason behind my suicide. Kundan recently threatened me that he would teach a lesson to my parents and would also kill me." Baghpat ASP Narendra Pratap Singh told TOI, "It appears to be a case of dowry death. After questioning her close relatives, it was found that victim Manisha (goes by her first name only) was married on Nov 26, 2023, to Kundan Kumar of Sidipur village in Dadri, Gautam Buddh Nagar. Five months after her marriage, she returned to her parental home in Baghpat following a quarrel between the couple." According to her family, the harassment over dowry began just five months into the marriage.

Ahmedabad, Sep 30 (PTI) More than 8,900 incidents of violent crime were reported in Gujarat in 2023, a little less than the previous year's figure, as per the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report. The state's rate of violent crimes per lakh of population was almost half of the national rate. A total of 8,976 incidents of violent crime were reported in 2023, a decrease of 39 compared to the 2022 tally of 9,015. New Delhi: Delhi recorded the highest number of suicides -- 3,131 -- among 53 major Indian cities, accounting for 12% of the total suicides, as per the latest NCRB data for the year 2023. Hyderabad: Telangana has recorded a sharp rise in crimes against women, according to the latest National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) 2023 report. The state registered 23,679 cases in 2023 compared to 22,065 in 2022, reflecting a continuing upward trend over the past three years. With a mid-year projected female population of 125.1 lakh, Telangana reported a crime rate of 189.6 per lakh women, nearly three times the national average of 66.2.
