Bhubaneswar: Following the self-immolation of a college student in Balasore, the school and mass education department on Thursday issued a directive to all district education officers (DEO)s to strictly implement measures ensuring the safety of women employees at workplaces and to create a secure environment for students in schools.The department instructed that helpline numbers related to women's safety be prominently displayed in all schools, hostels, and govt offices. These include the women helpline - 181, child helpline - 1098, police emergency response - 112, and school student helpline - 18003456722."It is imperative that a safe environment is created in schools for all students, particularly for girl students, to support their physical, mental, and socio-emotional well-being," said school and mass education secretary Shalini Pandit in a letter to the DEOs.The department also directed DEOs to ensure compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.
