Srinagar, July 17 (UNI) A lady pilgrim from Rajasthan died due to a shooting stone incident along the Amarnath Yatra route in Ganderbal district, officials said. The incident occurred along the Baltal axis, one of the two routes leading to the Amarnath shrine in South Kashmir. The slain lady has been identified as 52-year- old Sona, a resident of Rajasthan. "The lady yatri died due to the shooting stone incident along the yatra route," a senior police officer said. The Amarnath Yatra Yatra has been suspended for today from both twin base camps of Pahalgam in Anantnag and Baltal Ganderbal districts. An official spokesman said that heavy continuous rains over the last two days have necessitated restoration work to be carried out on tracks along both the routes. Meanwhile, persistent rainfall last evening triggered a landslide between Rayalpathri and Brarimarg along the Baltal axis, resulting in the halting of Yatra movement and stranding of a large number of pilgrims. The Indian Army, Police, CRPF and other agencies responded swiftly to assist the stranded pilgrims. Defence spokesman said in immediate response, the Army detachment deployed at Brarimarg swung into action and around 500 Yatris stranded in the area were accommodated in tents and provided with tea and drinking water. Additionally, another 3000 pilgrims found refuge in langars located between Brarimarg and Z Morh, which offered essential shelter and sustenance. The spokesman said a particularly critical case involved a sick Yatri stranded between two landslide-prone zones at Rayalpathri. Indian Army's Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) undertook a challenging manual stretcher evacuation under adverse weather conditions and safely transported the patient to Rayalpathri, from where an ambulance moved the individual for further medical care.
