Riyadh/New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) Augustin Dassayan, an Indian national working as security guard onboard the merchant vessel 'Eternity C' which sank on July 9 in the Red Sea following a hostile attack by the Houthis, has reached Jizan, Saudi Arabia, after he along with some other crew members were rescued. India thanked Saudi Arabia for its support and assistance in the matter. The Indian Embassy in Riyadh said in a post on X that a team from the embassy met the rescued Indian crew member and facilitated his return to India. "Augustin Dassayan, an Indian working as security guard aboard the merchant vessel Eternity C which sunk recently in Red Sea in a hostile attack, reached Jizan, Saudi Arabia yesterday along with some other survivors. "A team from the Indian Consulate in Jeddah met him, ensured his well-being, and facilitated his return to India. "We thank the Saudi authorities @KSAMOFA for their support and assistance in the matter." The Liberian-flagged and Greek-owned Eternity C cargo vessel was attacked in the Red Sea on July 7, when it was around 50 nautical miles off the Houthi-held port of Hodeidah. The Houthi militiamen, using sea drones and rocket-propelled grenades, fired from speedboats at the cargo vessel. The ship had a total of 25 people: 22 crew members -- 21 Filipino nationals and one Russian national, and three armed security guards, including one Indian national. The Houthi drone attacks severely damaged the ship and the vessel was left adrift and listing. The vessel sank on the morning of July 9. Four people are confirmed dead due to the incident. Ten crew members were rescued, including eight Filipino crew members and two of the security guards - one Greek and the Indian national. Six Filipino crew members were abducted by the Houthis and taken hostage. The search operation for the remaining missing crew members has been called off at the request of the ship's owner. The Houthis said they attacked Eternity C because the vessel's operator had made port visits to Israel.
