Patna: Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Patna high court. A notification to this effect was issued by the ministry of law and justice on Monday evening. Justice Pancholi, who has been serving as a judge of the Patna high court since July 2023, succeeds Justice Ashutosh Kumar, who has been appointed Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court.Born on May 28, 1968 in Ahmedabad, Justice Pancholi completed his BSc in electronics from St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, and later obtained his Master of Laws from Sir L A Shah Law College, Gujarat University. He was enrolled as an advocate in Sept 1991 and served as assistant govt pleader and additional public prosecutor in the Gujarat High Court for seven years. He was elevated as an additional judge of the Gujarat High Court on Oct 1, 2014 and became a permanent judge on June 10, 2016. He was transferred to the Patna high court in July 2023.Justice Ashutosh Kumar, who has been serving as Acting Chief Justice of the Patna high court since Jan 2024, has now been appointed Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Born on Oct 1, 1966 in Patna, he studied at St Michael's High School, graduated from St Stephen's College, Delhi, and completed his law degree from Delhi University. He was enrolled as an advocate in 1991 and elevated to the Patna high court bench in 2014.
