Pune: The Pune city and ghat areas which witnessed subdued rainfall activity last week are expected to see a marginal increase in rains this week, stated a Met department forecast.The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the ghat areas of Pune for Monday.According to India Meteorological Department (IMD) officials, a number of weather systems are present in the country which are boosting the chances of rainfall."The weather systems include an upper air cyclonic circulation near the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Odisha during the next 24 hours. Another upper air cyclonic circulation is over central parts of north Madhya Pradesh and the neighbourhood and extends up to middle tropospheric levels. Under its influence, another low-pressure area is likely to form over northwest Madhya Pradesh and the neighbourhood during the next 24 hours," an IMD official said.Meanwhile, the ghat areas and key locations experienced low rainfall between 8.30pm on Saturday and 8.30pm on Sunday.Areas such as Tamhini (56mm), Shirgaon (40mm), Lonavla (8mm), Kuruvande (11.5 mm), and Bhor (16.5mm) received low rainfall, while Shivajinagar, Pashan, Lavale, Magarpatta, Lohegaon, Chinchwad, and NDA did not record any showers. Koregaon Park recorded 2.5mm of rain.The IMD also issued a yellow alert for Nashik, Dhule, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts."Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over Konkan and Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch on July 14 and the Gujarat region during July 13-16, with very heavy rainfall over the Gujarat region on July 14," said a senior IMD official.Meanwhile, the catchments of the dams providing water to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) areas recorded very light showers.Khadakwasla's catchments did not record any rainfall, while Varasgaonreceived 6mm, Temghar at9mm and Panshet's catchments recorded 7mm of rain.
