Patna: Unidentified assailants shot dead former president of Punpun BJP Kisan Morcha, Surendra Kewat (52), at Sheikhpura village in Patna district late on Saturday night. The incident took place under Pipra police station area while Kewat, a BJP worker, was irrigating his field, adjacent to Bihta-Sarmera State Highway-78. According to police, after taking his evening meal, Kewat was working in the field when assailants arrived there. The attackers fired multiple rounds at him before escaping.Local residents, alerted by the gunfire, rushed to the spot. Surendra was rushed to AIIMS-Patna, where he succumbed to his injuries. The medical staff confirmed his death.Upon receiving the information, Masaurhi's SDPO-II, Kanhaiya Singh, along with a police team from Pipra police station, reached the spot.
