Patna: A 21-year-old resident of Samastipur was arrested from Begusarai district on Sunday for allegedly issuing a death threat to Lok Janshakti Party(Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan on social media. Mohd Miraj Idrisi, who posted the death threat on the social media under username 'Tiger Meraj Idrisi', will be handed over to the Patna cyber police for further investigation. The mobile phone and SIM card used to post the threat message were also recovered from the accused, a resident of Bhirha village in Rosera area of Samastipur district, police said.The threat emerged on July 11 in the comments section of a social media interview of MP Paswan. The suspect commented, "On July 20, I will kill Chirag Paswan by bombing."Following the threat, LJP(RV) chief spokesperson Rajesh Bhatt filed a written complaint at the Patna cyber police station. Additionally, the party's Samastipur district president, Anupam Kumar, alias Hira Singh, registered an FIR at the local cyber police station. Samastipur cyber deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Durgesh Deepak said the case was registered at the Patna cyber police station. "The investigation involved scrutinising various social media platforms, leading to the identification of the accused through technical analysis. A breakthrough came when investigators found a comment from a user, Sahil Safiq, suggesting that the person making the threat was mentally ill. Further investigation led the police to Mohd Meraj," he said. Acting on the directives of the Samastipur superintendent of police, a team led by the cyber DSP, arrested Meraj from Teghra in Begusarai. The cyber DSP said that the accused was taken to Samastipur Sadar Hospital for medical examination, before hand over to the Patna cyber police.
