NEW DELHI: At least five people, who were sleeping on a footpath in Delhi's Vasant Vihar, were crushed by a luxury Audi car allegedly being driven by a drunk man, Delhi Police said on Sunday (July 13). The incident took place late Saturday night, at around 01.45 am, when the victims, including an eight-year-old girl, were sleeping on the footpath. The police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to the hospital. The driver of the car, identified as Utsav Shekhar, a resident of Dwarka, has also been arrested. The victims have been identified as Ladhi (40 years), Bimla (8 years), Sabami (45 years), Narayani (35 years), and Ramchander (45 years). "People sleeping on the footpath, near the Indian Oil Petrol Pump, in front of Shiva Camp, Vasant Vihar, were crushed by an Audi car. "The incident took place on 09 July 2025, at around 1.45am. Delhi Police received the news through a PCR call. "Police from the Vasant Vihar police station reached the spot, and the four injured were sent to the hospital. The driver has been arrested," the Delhi Police said. One of the victims, Ramchander, said, "We were sleeping when the car hit us at around 1am. Two people were injured; my wife sustained an injury to her ear, and her rib was broken. The police took us to the hospital." He also demanded action against the driver, who was allegedly driving the car in an inebriated condition. As per the initial police investigation, the white Audi car ran over the victims, who were sleeping on the footpath. Soon after the accident, the police reached the spot and arrested the driver.
