Hyderabad: With engineering seat allotment scheduled for July 18, uncertainty looms over fee structures as the Telangana high court on Friday dismissed petitions by private colleges seeking a fee hike for 2025-26.The court, however, asked the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC) to review the colleges' fee hike representations and submit its proposals to the state within six weeks.Students expressed concern over the timing. "We have already given our options in the first phase of counselling. We just hope there won't be any fee hike as it would be difficult to arrange an additional amount in a short span," said Ajay Kumar, a student.Parents looking at management quotas are also left in limbo. "Colleges are asking us to wait, citing the fee issue. I fear we may end up paying more later," said N Hari, a parent.Despite the confusion, officials confirmed that counselling would continue as per the Telangana Council of Higher Education's (TGCHE) schedule. "As of now, we are sticking to the counselling schedule," said TGCHE chairman V Balakista Reddy.Colleges warned the issue could drag on if the govt decides to challenge the HC verdict in the Supreme Court.
