HYDERABAD: The Telangana high court on Friday granted permission to conduct the Bonalu festival for eight days on an open land abutting a temple at Lal Bazar, Trimulgherry. The court was dealing with a petition filed by Pyarasani Gowri Shanker, a businessman from Lal Bazar, who urged the high court to grant permission to organise the festivities from July 13 to July 20. He approached the court after the Hyderabad police denied permission to hold the festival on the land. It was learnt that the land is currently under litigation. While allowing the conduct of festival, the court directed the petitioner, along with the endowments department, to clear the space immediately after the completion of the festivities. The counsel for petitioner also submitted an interim order issued by the Telangana high court in July 2024, which had permitted the organisers to conduct the annual Bonalu festival at the same location last year.Counsel for the endowments department also informed the court that they are ready to organise Bonalu celebrations on the land near the temple.
