Hyderabad: HYDRAA on Friday removed encroachments from drainage lines and stormwater drains in Kukatpally and Khairatabad, following complaints from residents about waterlogging during the recent rain. HYDRAA commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the affected zones and directed immediate clearance of illegal structures that were obstructing the natural flow of water. In Khairatabad, encroachments were cleared on the Bulkapur nala near Tummalabasti and Anandnagar. Officials said the nala, which originates from Bulkapur Lake in Shankarpally and flows into Hussainsagar, had been narrowed from eight metres to five metres due to unauthorised constructions. In Kukatpally, the agency cleared the drain line connected to IDL Lake, which had shrunk from seven metres to two metres at certain points, causing frequent inundation in Habibnagar, Sriharinagar and Shivashakti Nagar. Two local function halls were found to have encroached upon the nala stretch spanning 50 to 70 metres and were removed. The directive followed an inspection report submitted to the CCSEA on June 17, which flagged serious concerns regarding the company's handling, housing, euthanasia protocols and veterinary care for animals. Citing the report's objectionable findings, the court prohibited the company from procuring or accommodating any new animals until further orders. The inspection, conducted by a CCSEA-appointed committee, recommended an urgent review of the company's registration for breeding and experimentation. It also called for the rehabilitation of the 1,200-plus animals currently housed at the facility.
