Ludhiana: At the age of 25-26, Reshma, who belonged to Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, was murdered by her family here. Police arrested her parents-in-law and their relative for allegedly strangling her to death over a "domestic dispute." The day before, two men dumped her body, stuffed into a sack, after repeatedly trying to dodge suspicious passersby. On being confronted about the contents of the sack, they claimed that it held rotten mangoes. The arrested accused are Reshma's parents-in-law, Krishan and Dulari, and their nephew, Ajay Kumar.Police said that Reshma's violent end was preceded by tensions in her marital home, with petty issues frequently escalating into heated arguments with her parents-in-law. They were particularly triggered by her nightly outings without their permission, said the police. Sub-inspector Amarjit Singh, SHO, division number eight police station, said that the accused murdered her on Tuesday night and later called their relative Ajay Kumar, a resident of Sham Nagar. After stuffing the body into a sack, Krishan went with Ajay to dump the body on his motorcycle. A police officer said that the accused were arrested near the railway station on Thursday while they were trying to escape to their native place. He added that Reshma and her parents-in-law had come to live in Maharaj Nagar area around one and a half months ago. Her husband, Avninder Kumar, lives in Lucknow.While police are trying to reach her husband, they said that the couple had a strained relationship, which may have prompted her to move to Ludhiana with her parents-in-law. The SHO said that a case was registered against the accused under sections 103 (murder) and 3(5) (common intention to commit a criminal act) of the BNS at division number eight police station, on the complaint of Manoj Kumar, landlord of the accused. The complainant said that on Tuesday, he heard sounds of his tenants, Reshma and her in-laws, fighting. The next morning, he said, he saw a sack wrapped in cloth near the main gate of his house and thought that his tenants were planning to vacate the room.Later, when he saw viral videos about the incident on social media, it dawned on him that Reshma had been murdered. Meanwhile, police said that Krishan works as a security guard with a private company. They added that it was initially suspected that he may have used a stolen motorcycle to transport the body of the deceased to dispose of it near Aarti Chowk on Ferozepur Road.
