Noida: The district administration has stepped up surveillance around the upcoming Noida International Airport after concessionaire Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) flagged concerns over bird strikes and safety risks linked to illegal constructions and waste dumps.In a recent Airfield Environment Management Committee (AEMC) review meeting, district magistrate Manish Kumar Verma instructed officials to ensure strict cleanliness within a 10-kilometre radius, removal of garbage and carcasses, and ordered the strengthening of all drainage systems in and around the airport.Further, he approved the creation of a dedicated survey team tasked with identifying all buildings constructed without the required NOC, with demolition action planned against those obstructing flight operations, officials said. To safeguard the airspace, Verma also instructed a ban on laser emitters or drones near the airport without prior approval and called for awareness campaigns in nearby rural areas to explain the need for compliance in ensuring flight safety.During the meeting, officials from departments including the forest, irrigation, animal husbandry, and the local development authority shared their progress reports and assured compliance with the guidelines issued.The directives were issued during the AEMC meeting after the chief operating officer of Noida International Airport, Kiran Jain, highlighted the likelihood of bird strikes due to unattended waste dumps near the airport. She also flagged unauthorised construction work in the vicinity of the airport as a threat to aviation.
