Noida: A group of residents staged a symbolic protest on Thursday by planting saplings in waterlogged patches of a damaged road connecting villages in Dankaur and Bilaspur. The road, developed by the Yamuna Authority, is riddled with potholes.Prem Pradhan, district president of Corruption Free India that organised the protest, said, "Due to the use of poor construction material, the road was damaged and waterlogged. People are forced to wade through knee-deep water."Dinesh Nagar, state general secretary of the organisation, said the broken road and waterlogging have led to accidents in the area. Yamuna Authority official said repair work on the stretch would begin soon.Waterlogging was also reported in other villages of Noida and Greater Noida. A video surfaced on the internet where people were seen wading through flooded streets to a crematorium with a body in Roja Jalalpur village.Jitendra Diwakar, a resident, said the Greater Noida Authority recently developed a road in the village, which has blocked the passage of stormwater. "The intense rainfall on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning led to waterlogging on the road and elsewhere," he added.Residents of Chhalera village in Noida also struggled with waterlogging on the road in front of the market.
