Revised KEAM results out; major shift in top ranks, board shares | Thiruvananthapuram News - Times of India

Thiruvananthapuram: The revised KEAM engineering entrance results, announced by the govt here on Thursday after a high court division bench dismissed its appeal against the single bench order, painted a glaringly different scenario from the results announced on July 1. If 43 candidates from the state syllabus figured in the first 100 ranks in the previous results, the same came down to 21 in the revised results. The number of students from the CBSE stream in the first 100 ranks, meanwhile, jumped to 79 from 55.Earlier in the day, the HC division bench upheld the single bench decision setting aside the last-minute changes made by the govt to the KEAM 2025 prospectus. The govt had introduced changes in the normalisation of marks obtained by candidates who completed qualifying exams in different boards.Joshua Jacob Thomas of Thiruvananthapuram, who was ranked fifth earlier, emerged as the topper in the revised rank list. Hari Kishan Baiju of Ernakulam, who bagged the second rank in the previous rank list, retained his position in the new list as well.Emil Iype Sacharia of Thiruvananthapuram improved his position from the sixth rank to third rank, while Adl Zayaan of Malappuram retained the fourth rank. Advaith Ayinappilly Sandeep of Bangalore, who secured the fifth rank, did not figure in the top 10 ranks last time. Ananya Rajeev of Bangalore improved her position from 13th to 6th rank this time. The first rank holder in the previous list, John Shinoj of Ernakulam, came in the seventh position. Similarly, the third rank holder in the previous list, Akshay Biju B A of Kozhikode, finished in the eighth position. The entrance commissioner has not shared the board details of the new rank holders. CBSE and state board students shared five ranks each in the first 10 ranks in the previous list, and the first rank holder was a state syllabus student. As per the revised rank list, 1,796 candidates from the state syllabus figured in the first 5,000 ranks. The number of CBSE candidates in this section is 2,960. While 201 ISC candidates found a place in the group, 43 were from other state boards. Ernakulam district is the top performer with 175 candidates figuring in the first 1,000 ranks, Thrissur second with 114 ranks and Thiruvananthapuram third with 111 ranks.Higher education minister R Bindu said the govt decided not to appeal against the high court division bench order as a protracted legal struggle would badly affect the admission prospects of students. She maintained that the govt has reserved its right to make changes in the prospectus at any time, but the court rejected such arguments. AICTE set August 14 as the last date for completing the admission procedure in engineering colleges, and there was no option but to publish the KEAM entrance rank list using the normalisation formula followed in previous years, she said.Bindu refused to comment if the govt would continue to push the new formula it introduced for the normalisation of marks. "Let this year's process be completed. There is enough time left to consider what should be done next year," she said.
