Five MBBS students killed in Kerala crash

Thiruvananthapuram: In a devastating event, five MBBS students from TD Medical College Vandanam, Alappuzha, perished when their car crashed into a Kerala State Road Transport Corporation bus on Monday night. The deceased, all first-year MBBS students, were identified as Devanathan, 19, from Malappuram; Sreedev Valsan, 19, from Palakkad; Ayush Shaji, 19, from Kottayam; P. P. Mohammad Ibrahim, 19, from Androth Lakshadweep; and Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, 19, from Kannur. The accident occurred at 9:30 pm on Monday near Karalkode. The car they were travelling in lost control and collided with a KSRTC superfast bus from the opposite direction. Eleven people were in the car at the time of the accident. Two who are critically injured, are undergoing treatment at the medical college. The students were on their way to Alappuzha town for a movie when the accident occurred. Following the incident, locals extricated the injured students from the wrecked vehicle. After the post-mortem examination, the students' remains were brought to the medical college campus for the public to pay tribute. The campus bore witness to poignant moments as students, faculty, and staff queued to offer their final respects. Ministers Veena George, Saji Cherian, P Prasad and MLAs also paid homage to the departed students. Agriculture Minister P. Prasad, from Alappuzha district, assured that the government will provide the best possible care for the injured and stated that a thorough investigation into the accident will be conducted.
