Kolkata: The women's grievance cell of the detective department on Wednesday focused on reviewing the evidence it had collected since June 26 in the law college gang rape case. This review came a day after the Alipore court sent the main accused, Monojit Mishra (31), co-accused Zaib Ahmed (19) and Pramit Mukherjee (20) and college security guard Pinaki Banerjee (55) to jail till June 22.Sources said that a few key witnesses were examined once more to match their statements with the forensic reports that began arriving at Lalbazar.On the controversy related to the college vice-principal's location at the time of the crime, police said they were consulting handwriting experts to get a clear understanding of the situation and to ascertain if someone else attempted to change the time in the register. Questions have been raised on possible tampering of the entry and exit time register, a charge she denied. Investigators are also examining CCTV footage to confirm whether one or more individuals entered the college office on June 25 and 26.Sources mentioned that several tasks related to developing "conclusive evidence" were already completed. Referring to the remand note, along with the case diary and the public prosecutor's submission, placed in court, sources said hard disks containing the CCTV footage of different relevant places were seized."The blood samples of the accused Mishra, Ahmed, and Mukherjee, and the survivor were collected, and the complete forensic reports will be in our hands soon. The data from the seized mobile phones of the accused persons will also be crucial for the case. The biological samples, medico-legal exhibits, and blood samples of the victim as well as the accused persons have been sent to SPSL Kolkata for examination and report. During the investigation, other incriminating articles were also seized," said a police officer."A good number of witnesses, including those acquainted with the facts and circumstances of the case, were examined, and their statements recorded," said an investigator.Police explained in the remand notethat the judicial custody of the accused was necessary to verify the statement of the accused with other witnesses and further examination of them once the complete forensic reports arrived.
