Four talukas of Gujarat receive over 1,000mm rain on July 3 | Ahmedabad News - Times of India

Ahmedabad: The city stayed cool at a maximum temperature of 31.8°C and minimum of 25.3°C as a blanket of clouds and 7mm of rain kept the temperatures pleasantly low on Thursday. While Ahmedabad anticipates more light to moderate showers on Friday, the true force of the monsoon was felt across North Gujarat, where several talukas were drenched by heavy to very heavy downpours. Idar in Sabarkantha led the charge with a whopping 140mm, followed closely by Dhanera (116mm) in Banaskantha and Jamkandorna (110mm) in Rajkot. Jodiya (101mm) in Jamnagar, Lalpur (86mm) in Jamnagar, among others, until 6pm, according to State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) data. Vadgam and Dantiwada in Banaskantha recorded 81mm of rain each.In all, 181 talukas across all regions of Gujarat recorded at least 1mm of rainfall, according to the data. A total of 26 recorded 50mm or more of rain. The state has so far recorded 36.5% of total seasonal rainfall, where four talukas recorded more than 1,000mm of rain, 34 talukas recorded 500-1,000mm of rain, and 109 talukas recorded 251-500mm of rain. The highest rainfall was recorded in the south Gujarat region at 594mm, which is 40% of the total rain.While the Sardar Sarovar dam is at 47% of its capacity, the other 206 dams are at an average of 50% of their capacity. According to the IMD forecast, heavy rain is likely in parts of Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on Friday, It has predicted heavy to very heavy rain in Sabarkantha and Aravalli, with heavy rain in parts of Banaskantha, Mehsana, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Surat, Dangs, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on Saturday. Other districts may experience light to moderate showers with occasional thunderstorms, added the forecast.
