Amid reports suggesting that the Indian cricket team may not travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav stated that it is wrong to mix sports with politics. He questioned why there should be any objection to the players travelling to Pakistan for a cricket match. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yadav said if PM Modi can visit the neighbouring country "to eat biryani", then it is appropriate for the Indian cricket team players to visit Pakistan for an important tournament. "Involving politics into sports is not a good thing. We should go, other teams should travel to India... Doesn't everyone participate in the Olympics?... Why shouldn't India go there (Pakistan)? What is the objection? If the PM can go there to have Biryani - then it's good, if the India team travels - why this is not good?" Yadav was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Yadav's remarks come amid growing uncertainty over India's participation in the upcoming tournament likely to be held in Pakistan in February 2025. The official schedule is yet to be announced.
