Last rites of Pak couple performed | Jaipur News - Times of India

Jaisalmer: The 17-year old man and 15-year-old girl from Pakistan, found dead due to dehydration near the India-Pak border in Jaisalmer on June 28, were cremated on Tuesday after their bodies were handed over by police to their distant relatives in Jaisalmer late Monday night. The last rites were performed in the presence of police. Relatives said the two were married four months ago in Pakistan's Ghotki district and wanted to settle in Jaisalmer, which led them to illegally enter India after their visa applications were turned down. They lost their way on the sand dunes of Bibiyan desert and died of dehydration.Jaisalmer SP Sudhir Chaudhary said the couple, identified as Ravi Kumar and Shanti Bai from identity cards found on their persons, were carrying Pakistani SIM cards and mobile phones. The postmortem report said both died from dehydration.The SP said the bodies had turned black, were about 10 days old, and were found in a highly decomposed and damaged state. Although their relatives in Jaisalmer said the couple's family members in Pakistan were willing to take the bodies back, there was the possibility of delay in repatriating them to Pakistan. Since the bodies were decomposing, consent was obtained from their families in Pakistan to perform the last rites in Jaisalmer. tnn
