Mumbai: In a shocking case of child abuse, Mankhurd police booked a man for allegedly assaulting his 5-year-old daughter ruthlessly after a Good Samaritan brought it to the attention of the police upon seeing a video that went viral on Monday. Police booked Rajeshram alias Bhagwan under the Juvenile Justice Act and for assault, an act that was reportedly captured on video and shared with local residents.The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Abdul Hakim Qayum Sheikh, 45, a longtime resident of Karbala Chawl in Mankhurd, who works as an animal welfare activist. On the afternoon of June 30, while on his way to pick up his daughters from school, Sheikh received a disturbing video forwarded by his wife. The video allegedly showed Rajeshram tying something to his leg and brutally beating his young daughter.Shocked by the visuals, Sheikh rushed to the Mankhurd police station and showed the video to officers. A police team, including female personnel, immediately accompanied him to the accused's residence in G Line, Karbala Chawl. Although Rajeshram was not present, his children -- Sanjana and her brother Ankush -- were found and taken to the station for questioning.According to the statement recorded by the police, Sanjana confirmed that her father beat her with his hands and even burned her on the cheek with a cigarette because she refused to sleep.Police registered an offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code related to cruelty and assault. The accused, Rajeshram alias Bhagwan, is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
