He was scheduled to retire from service on Monday, June 30.The appointments committee of the Union cabinet approved a proposal from the Union home ministry on Monday to extend Sahay's service for six months beyond his retirement date. Sahay will continue as DGP until Dec 31 this year. Subsequently, the Gujarat govt also issued an appropriate order later in the evening.The 1989-batch Gujarat cadre IPS officer was appointed as DGP in March 2023. He was given additional charge of the top post in the state police setup on Jan 31, 2023, following the retirement of former DGP Ashish Bhatia.
