Dimapur, June 29 (MExN): The Federal Government of Nagaland issued a statement reaffirming the Lakhuti Resolution of 1955, declaring that any action or organization that undermines the political, administrative or traditional institutions of the Naga Nation constitutes treason. In a statement signed by D Ramai, Tatar of the Federal Government of Nagaland, the government said that by "the gracious gift of God," the Naga people are the sole and sovereign owners of Nagaland. "The Nagas are sovereign, independent and free by sedition," it stated. The Federal Government recalled the foundation of the Naga National Council (NNC) on February 2, 1946, at Wokha as the only democratically established national council representing the Naga people. It emphasized that no other such national council had been formed by the people since. The Lakhuti Resolution, adopted on April 12, 1955, at Tuophema village in the Angami region and ratified on April 27 the same year, was cited as a defining political declaration. The resolution states: "Any person or persons who, in order to destroy or undermine the integrity and well-being of Nagaland... whether with or without the aid of another country or countries, shall be deemed to have committed treason." Calling for unity, Ramai urged the Naga people to reaffirm and implement the Lakhuti Resolution, which he described as "farsighted," in order to ease the sufferings of the Naga people and bring about normalcy. He warned that "organizations, factions or groups created themselves without the knowledge of the Naga people have no right to mislead or dictate the democratic Naga people." "The Naga people are the sole owner and host of the Naga Nation," the statement read, adding that they must "remain united, fearless and not compromise their rights of ownership."
