India charges two nationals for murders in Bahrain and UAE

The Indian Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed charges against two Indian nationals in connection with two murder cases in Bahrain and the UAE, at the request of the governments of Bahrain and the UAE, an official said. "CBI closely co-ordinated with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, to obtain evidence admissible under Indian law from authorities in the UAE and Bahrain and successfully launched prosecution against the accused, Inder Jit Singh and Subhash Chander Mahla," the agency said in a statement. Investigations revealed that Mr Mahla worked as a driver in Bahrain when he allegedly murdered his employer on January 31, 2011, after being "aggravated by his misbehaviour." He reportedly hit him with a blunt object, causing injuries that proved fatal. In a similar incident in the UAE, Mr Singh allegedly murdered fellow countryman Rama Lingam Natesan on August 28, 2008, after a dispute broke out between the two over BD30 in unpaid phone bills. Reportedly, Natesan had asked Singh's employer to deduct the amount from his salary, leading Singh to hatch a plan to kill Natesan, whom he allegedly attacked with a sharp knife. "As the nodal agency to launch local prosecution, the CBI continues its efforts to bring culprits to face the law and fulfil India's international obligations," the agency said in a statement.
