SALEM: Water resources department (WRD) officials at the Mettur dam on Saturday sounded flood alert in 11 districts, including Salem, Namakkal, Trichy, Thanjavur and the delta districts downstream, stating they were expecting heavy inflow in the Cauvery river. The water level in the Mettur dam stood at 117.39ft on Saturday noon, against its full capacity of 120ft. "If the inflow increases, the Mettur dam is likely to reach its full capacity soon. We are likely to release 50,000 to 75,000 cusecs (cubic feet per second) of water into the Cauvery. The quantum of water to be released could be increased further at any time."WRD officials urged the people living along the banks of the Cauvery and in low-lying areas to take precautions and move to safer locations.

NAGAPATTINAM: The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC) has procured a total of 8,678 tonnes of paddy at a cost of Rs 18 crore from 1,225 farmers in the district in roughly 20 days since the commencement of the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2025-26.
