Rescued tiger from Silli spends a quiet day in PTR | Ranchi News - Times of India

Daltonganj: The five-year-old male tiger which was soft released into the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) on Thursday after being rescued from a house in Silli block in Ranchi, bordering Purulia district in West Bengal, spent a quiet and uneventful day loitering in the bushes, officials here said on Friday."It had a calm and cool first day. It spent its day sitting in bushes and shrubs," said deputy director (south) of PTR, Kumar Ashish, on Friday. The PTR on Friday said it is studying the tiger's stripe patterns and scat samples to ascertain whether it was present in the PTR before. Ashish said leopards have begun avoiding the area where the tiger is located now. When asked how long the tiger will remain in PTR, Ashish said, "It's a big question. We are also keeping figures crossed." Notably, the tiger returned to its original abode after six month's sojourns across different parts of Jharkhand up to West Bengal. Ashish said that a tiger's departure is often prompted by factors such as a deficient prey base, human disturbance, or poor water availability. He however said that the place where it was re-released has sufficient prey base.He said, "PTR's trackers and guards are at work around the clock to minimise it. PTR also has abundance of water." Officials said at least two female tigresses are required in PTR. Ashish said, "I will submit this demand for at least two female tigresses to be present to our field director and state wildlife board/management to address this matter with the National Tiger Conservation Authority."
