New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today spoke with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi to discuss the current situation following the ceasefire between Iran and Israel, and also thanked him for helping with the safe evacuation of Indian nationals. In a post on X, the EAM said: "Spoke to FM @araghchi of Iran this afternoon. "Appreciate his sharing Iran's perspective and thinking in the current complex situation. "Thanked him for facilitating the safe evacuation of Indian nationals." The EAM's conversation with the Iranian FM came hours after a flight arrived bringing back 173 Indian nationals from Iran. The MEA spokesperson said in a post on X: "#OperationSindhu "A special evacuation flight from Yerevan, Armenia landed in New Delhi at 22:30 hrs on 26th June, bringing home 173 Indian nationals from Iran. "As part of #OperationSindhu, a total of 4415 Indian nationals (3597 from Iran and 818 from Israel) have been evacuated so far using 19 special evacuation flights including 3 IAF aircraft. "14 OCI card-holders, 9 Nepali nationals, 4 Sri Lankan nationals and 1 Iranian spouse of an Indian national were also evacuated from Iran." Yesterday, the MEA spokesperson, at the weekly briefing, had thanked the governments of Israel, Jordan and Egypt for the support in Operation Sindhu, and specifically Iran for opening up their airspace to evacuate Indian nationals. "We are grateful to the Government of Iran for this special gesture. We are also thankful to the government of Turkmenistan and Armenia for helping us evacuate our people," the spokesperson said.
