Dibrugarh: Executing a humanitarian mission, with a touch of innovation, the Indian Army recently utilised custom-built drones to deliver critical supplies to isolated residents at Mawali village in Arunachal Pradesh's Dibang Valley district, after devastating floods had ravaged the state, following torrential rains, leaving multiple communities completely cut off from external assistance.While Athunli village bore the brunt, with floodwaters washing away 16 homes, the neighbouring Mawali village, with six residents -- including three children, elderly individuals and one woman -- was entirely cut off from rest of the state after landslides severed all transportation links.Responding to the crisis, Army specialists on Thursday launched an unprecedented relief operation, using self-constructed drones, to execute precise supply drops. The military team successfully delivered essential rations, medical supplies and emergency provisions directly to the stranded villagers through the aerial deployment.The technological impetus provided critical sustenance to the isolated residents, while District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) teams worked to establish ground access. The Army's deployment of customised drone technology demonstrated effective adaptation of modern tools for emergency humanitarian assistance.The military team further showcased their resourcefulness by engineering an improvised river-crossing system. Installing a rope line, the Army personnel created a makeshift cable transport system, facilitating ongoing supply delivery, besides offering a potential evacuation pathway for the trapped residents.Dibang Valley's deputy commissioner praised the Army's rapid and creative response. "Truly indebted to our Armed Forces for helping us deliver essentials to the stranded at Mawali Village, using their self-made drones and the rope line for transportation," the official said.The operation highlighted the Indian Army's capacity to quickly deploy innovative solutions during natural disasters, combining technological expertise with traditional engineering methods to address urgent humanitarian needs in challenging remote locations.
MORIGAON: At least 64 villages in Assam's Morigaon district remain affected by floods, with residents facing major difficulties in transportation and accessing necessities.
