Edgbaston Test: Gill's serene ton holds India together after wickets gifted

New Delhi: Was it the pitch? Was it the conditions? Was it the bowling? The questions doing the rounds after yet another strange show in good batting conditions by India were many. But with the exception of Shubman Gill, who became just the second Indian captain, after Mohammad Azharuddin, to score hundreds in consecutive matches in England, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, few India batters managed to answer them in a satisfactory manner. After being put into bat by England, India looked like they were i ...Read More >

Majestic Gill ton guides India to 310-5 on day 1

Cricket - India's Shubman Gill played a masterful captain's knock with his second century of the series on the opening day of the second Test against England as the tourists recovered to finish on 310-5 at stumps at Edgbaston yesterday. Gill was under pressure due to his team selection after pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was rested, but the skipper played a dogged knock and barely put a foot wrong as he wore down the England bowlers while playing confident strokes. India captain Shubman Gill's hundred holds off England on first day at Edgbaston

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) -- New captain Shubman Gill's unbeaten 114 led India's gritty effort to 310-5 against England on day one Wednesday of the second test at Edgbaston. The pressure was on Gill as India's last specialist batsman to prevent exposing the fragile bottom order in the last two hours of an extended day. He succeeded despite leg cramps. Gill and spin allrounder Ravindra Jadeja, paired from 211-5 after two quick wickets after tea, ran well, were patient and still kept the scorebo ...Read More >

It's time for India to show how badly they want 20 wickets

India are worried about their long tail. They keep saying 20 wickets are their priority and that they are willing to play four tailenders if that means getting 20 wickets as cheaply as possible, but believe it once you see it with your own two eyes. It is clear by now that Shardul Thakur played the first Test at Headingley primarily because of his batting ability. India have repeatedly called him a "bowling allrounder", but used him for just 16 overs out of 182.4. Two days out from the second T ...Read More >

Bowlers in need of better lengths to end India's Edgbaston jinx in Bumrah's possible absence

Bengaluru, Jun 27 (PTI) Jasprit Bumrah's possible absence from next week's second Test against England in Birmingham will rob India's bowling unit of control, not an ideal element to miss when the visitors are trying to go level at a ground where they have never won a red-ball match. The passage between overs 65 and 82 of the first Test at Leeds, which England won by five wickets to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series, will offer further validation to that grim fact. England were 286 for ...Read More >

Rohit says India won't rush Shami's return unless '200% sure'

BGT: Rohit can throw first punch in Brisbane by opening the batting, says Shastri - Weekly Voice

New Delhi, Dec 12 (VOICE) Former India head coach Ravi Shastri said the only way a struggling Rohit Sharma can assert himself in the upcoming Brisbane Test is by throwing the first punch towards Australia as an opener. Rohit could only make nine runs in two innings as a number six batter in India's ten-wicket defeat to Australia at the Adelaide Oval, as the hosts' squared the five-match series 1-1. Those two scores meant Rohit is now averaging just 11.83 in his last six Tests. "That's where he ...Read More >
