New Delhi: In a horrendous incident, a Mumbai-based doctor lost a part of his arm. It happened after the 50-year-old man fell on the railway tracks along with his wife during a robbery on a moving train. The man, Yogesh Deshmukh (50), and his wife Deepali Deshmukh (44) are both doctors. They were travelling with their daughter who is nine-year-old in the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (Kurla)-Nanded Express on June 4. When the train was between Kanjunmarg and Bhandup, the robbery took place and it led to the tragedy. The train had left the Kurla terminus and it had been just 15 minutes when a robber tried to snatch the handbag of Deepali. When she resisted and clutched on to her handbag, the robber dragged her along till the gate of the coach. Meanwhile, Yogesh, who was sleeping on the upper berth, came to her rescue and was trying to save her, when they both fell on the tracks. While Deepali suffered bruises, a part of Yogesh's arm was crushed under the train. By the time, the train's speed had slowed down and the robber had jumped off with the handbag. Notably, during the incident, there was no railway security personnel at the scene. The couple told the police that they tried to contact the police helpline but did not know about their own location. They were spotted by a tempo driver and were taken to a private hospital. The couple's daughter was safely disembarked at Kalyan. Railway Police have registered a case against unidentified robbers and are scanning CCTV footage to identify the perpetrator.
