New Delhi: With the monsoon expected to arrive in the city by the last week of June, Public Works Department and allied agencies have intensified seasonal preparations, with instructions given to complete desilting by June 15. While conducting an inspection of drainage points in Mehrauli on Thursday, PWD minister Parvesh Verma also ordered the deployment of rapid response teams during heavy rain alerts and live GPS-based monitoring of drain-cleaning operations. He has asked for coordination reports from PWD, Delhi Jal Board and the irrigation department. The minister visited five critical locations known for repeated waterlogging and drainage issues -- drains near Saket gurdwara, Dargah Mehrauli (Malhotra Properties), Moti Lal Nehru Camp and one near Kusumpur Pahadi and Qutub Institutional Area. Besides senior officials, Singh was accompanied by South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Mehrauli MLA Gajendra Yadav."For years, previous govts and officials treated the monsoon as a disaster.
